Helen’s Closet Reynolds Top

July 20, 2021

I had just enough fabric from my Pietra Pants leftover to make a tank! I decided to make a Helen’s Closet Reynolds, thinking that it would use less fabric since it’s cropped (it did). The only edit I made was to lengthen the top by 1″ so it wasn’t…

Closet Core Pietra Pants & Shorts

July 18, 2021

I am fully on board the linen pants train! My summer choices tend to be denim shorts or knit pencil skirts, but after making the Blanca Flight Suit in Robert Kaufman Brussels Washer Linen, I decided I needed some linen pants and shorts. The Blanca was a new pant silhouette…

I’m planning on making an Elodie Wrap Dress for a wedding in August, so I decided to make a top version to test it out instead of making a muslin. I measured around 13.5″ up from the bottom of skirt of the above the knee view and followed the curve…

Two More Fringe Tops

December 1, 2020

Rather than planning ahead for all my projects in advance like I used to, I decided to just pick what fabric I want to work with when I have the urge to sew, and then pick a pattern. Last week I selected this Telio & Cie Viscose Linen Silky Noil…

That fringe top I made has been worn exactly once. I think the gathered skirt threw me. However, I really did like how the button-up top fit! I’d been meaning to make a version without the gathered skirt, and Chalk & Notch posted this tutorial so I followed those instructions…

On the way back from Skye we stopped at Blair Cast On the way back from Skye we stopped at Blair Castle where they had a great fashion exhibit from their collection. They also had a room of stunning needlework collected or created by one of the Duke’s daughters in the 1800s.

With our extra day, we went to Lochcarron of Scotland for a fabric mill tour. We were going to spend the day exploring the Scottish Borders but found a giant bulge in the tire of our rental car so we anxiously drove back to drop it off, avoiding as many of the millions of potholes as possible.

Then we headed to our stately hotel for our last day before heading home: a spa day complete with afternoon tea and yes another tasting menu.

We drove to one hike and turned right around when we saw the crowd. But we did get some gorgeous views, a tour at Talisker, and an incredible tasting menu @scorrybreacrestaurant.

Then to our stylish B&B. The next day we headed to Skye but stopped at Glencoe for an easy walk around a beautiful little loch.

The castle was a filming location for a Christmas episode of Downton Abbey, and there were photos everywhere. In the little cafe a woman asked if she could take a photo of the photo over our table and I said “sure, I love that show” and she looked at me dead serious and said “yeah of course!” Like duh.
Very full day in Edinburgh: National Museum of Sco Very full day in Edinburgh: National Museum of Scotland and the Dr. Who exhibit, lunch in a building from the 1500s, Edinburgh Castle, shopping, Dovecot studios (textile gallery), and the Scotch Whiskey Experience. We logged almost 8 miles of walking then took a taxi back to our amazing hotel.
