Deer + Doe Magnolia Gown

November 19, 2019

Here is the fanciest thing I’ve ever made! I don’t have a lot of opportunities to wear such a fancy dress, but when we were invited to a black tie preferred wedding, I immediately thought of the Deer and Doe Magnolia. Not only does Deer and Doe’s block work…

Moon Phase Button Camas Blouse

August 11, 2019

I’ve been eyeing the Thread Theory Camas Blouse for such a long time! The pattern struck me as so comfy, but with some really nice design details. I finally ordered some super cheap fabric to make a wearable muslin, and am pretty happy with it! I love the gathers on…

Gray Fairfield

July 20, 2019

Until now I’ve only made Mal printed button ups, but sometimes you just need a really nice plain shirt for a meeting or layering. We stopped into Fabric Place Basement and got some nice Robert Kaufman yarn dyed shirting, so I could make him a versatile gray long-sleeved button up.…

Pattern Drafting Workshop at Stitch Sew Shop

July 8, 2019

Last month I took a pattern drafting workshop at Stitch with Cal Patch. I’ve been wanting to take a workshop since Stitch opened, but I wasn’t interested in a workshop for a specific pattern (like jeans or a dress), since I like taking my time working on new patterns at…

After I finished the sweater I said I’d never knit, I wanted to make another. It was January 2018, and I figured if I got started on a summer top, I could finish it in time to wear it for summer. Well I did finish it in time to…

May 7, 2019

We’ve been calling 2019 “the year of no pressure” in our house. After a crazy 2018 where we took on too much, we’re trying to take it a bit easier. Part of this is not putting expectations on myself about what I will sew and when. My goal for the…

With our extra day, we went to Lochcarron of Scotland for a fabric mill tour. We were going to spend the day exploring the Scottish Borders but found a giant bulge in the tire of our rental car so we anxiously drove back to drop it off, avoiding as many of the millions of potholes as possible.

Then we headed to our stately hotel for our last day before heading home: a spa day complete with afternoon tea and yes another tasting menu.

We drove to one hike and turned right around when we saw the crowd. But we did get some gorgeous views, a tour at Talisker, and an incredible tasting menu @scorrybreacrestaurant.

Then to our stylish B&B. The next day we headed to Skye but stopped at Glencoe for an easy walk around a beautiful little loch.

The castle was a filming location for a Christmas episode of Downton Abbey, and there were photos everywhere. In the little cafe a woman asked if she could take a photo of the photo over our table and I said “sure, I love that show” and she looked at me dead serious and said “yeah of course!” Like duh.

We logged almost 8 miles of walking then took a taxi back to our amazing hotel.
