Pandalicious Finlayson for Rachel

March 16, 2017

I whipped up this Finlayson for Rachel. I did some mockups for her, and she requested a panda kangaroo pocket. She also requested panda ears on the hood, but I wasn’t going to go there. I made this in a size small, and shortened the sleeves and body about 1″…

Fitting workshop!

March 13, 2017

I took a top-fitting workshop at Stitch yesterday to try and get to the bottom of my back-fitting issues in shirts with flat backs (no CB seam or darts). I brought my finished Melilot and a muslin and crossed my fingers for some solutions. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure…

Finlayson Sweater for Mal’s birthday

February 28, 2017

This is my first garment for another adult human! It’s the Finlayson Sweater by Thread Theory Designs, and it came out awesome. I picked up this beautiful and soft French Terry from stitch in Mal’s favorite color, and I had enough ribbing leftover from my Linden sweatshirt for the…

Finlayson Sweater Notes

February 27, 2017

Sewed everything on the sewing machine with a triple stitch, then serged the seams. I had some issues only serging the first shoulder and panicked since I’m still so new to serging. I think in the future, and maybe with cheaper fabric, I’d try to just serge it again, but…

February 22, 2017

Well, after all the notes in my last post, I think I ended up with some super wearable jeans! As I was finishing up, I was debating if it’s worth it for me to make my own jeans. I never really have trouble finding RTW that fits well, unlike tops…

Ginger Jeans Notes

February 4, 2017

I’m finally starting my Ginger Jeans. I bought the ebook, which isn’t much different than the sew along but it seems worth the $12. I wanted to start this weekend so simply couldn’t wait for the online workshop to debut at the end of Feb. Graded the following pattern pieces:…

On the way back from Skye we stopped at Blair Cast On the way back from Skye we stopped at Blair Castle where they had a great fashion exhibit from their collection. They also had a room of stunning needlework collected or created by one of the Duke’s daughters in the 1800s.

With our extra day, we went to Lochcarron of Scotland for a fabric mill tour. We were going to spend the day exploring the Scottish Borders but found a giant bulge in the tire of our rental car so we anxiously drove back to drop it off, avoiding as many of the millions of potholes as possible.

Then we headed to our stately hotel for our last day before heading home: a spa day complete with afternoon tea and yes another tasting menu.

We drove to one hike and turned right around when we saw the crowd. But we did get some gorgeous views, a tour at Talisker, and an incredible tasting menu @scorrybreacrestaurant.

Then to our stylish B&B. The next day we headed to Skye but stopped at Glencoe for an easy walk around a beautiful little loch.

The castle was a filming location for a Christmas episode of Downton Abbey, and there were photos everywhere. In the little cafe a woman asked if she could take a photo of the photo over our table and I said “sure, I love that show” and she looked at me dead serious and said “yeah of course!” Like duh.
Very full day in Edinburgh: National Museum of Sco Very full day in Edinburgh: National Museum of Scotland and the Dr. Who exhibit, lunch in a building from the 1500s, Edinburgh Castle, shopping, Dovecot studios (textile gallery), and the Scotch Whiskey Experience. We logged almost 8 miles of walking then took a taxi back to our amazing hotel.
